We encourage people to book a surgery assessment after they have turned 18, since there is a chance your application for OHIP funding may be rejected by the Ministry of Health. The Ministry does not have internal rules around minors — their process is set up for those who are 18 and over.
We would need to make a compelling case for why you require surgery before you are 18, but there is a chance the application may be rejected. Another factor is that, even if your application is approved by the Ministry and we are able to send a referral to a surgeon, the acceptance of your referral will be at the surgeon’s discretion.
