You are required to have been on hormones for a certain amount of time when you apply for provincial funding in Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario.
Alberta
If you live in Alberta and are applying for AHCIP coverage for surgery, you must have been on hormones continuously for a minimum of 12 months when you apply for funding for all surgeries aside from mastectomy/chest construction (top surgery). For top surgery, there is no hormone requirement.
There is a Surgical Assessment waitlist in Alberta. Once you have joined the waitlist, we'll ensure your assessment(s) are booked at the appropriate time.
British Columbia
If you live in British Columbia and are applying for MSP coverage for surgery, you must have been on hormones continuously for a minimum of 6 months when you apply for funding for all surgeries aside from mastectomy/chest construction (top surgery) and breast augmentation. For top surgery, there is no hormone requirement. For breast augmentation, an appropriate trial of hormone therapy is required. This is determined on a case-by-case basis with your clinician.
You can book your assessments with Foria up to three months in advance. We suggest putting a reminder into your calendar at the 9 month mark so you can then book with us in a timely manner.
